Dry Tortugas National Park lies roughly seventy miles west of Key West. Fort Jefferson and the surrounding reef are compelling, and they sit behind a long transfer, usually by ferry or seaplane. That makes Dry Tortugas a full-day destination, not a casual add-on for every cruise call.

When it may be worth considering
